...it's my personal belief that we'd improve our lives a lot if we'd just treat
each other with a little more decency.
If you've hit this page through any kind of search engine looking for private
civil engineers, please look for another site. My personal calendar won't
permit me to take on any private consulting work.
Still, as a public service:
What's Civil Engineering?
The planning and design of fixed facilities such as roads, buildings, harbors,
towers, bridges, waterworks, and dams. Over the years, Civil
Engineering has also picked up railroads, airports, flood control, and
sanitation facilities.
Why is it called Civil Engineering?
Before 1800, the term distinguished the field from military engineering.
Back then, military engineering concerned itself with fortifications, siege
engines, and cannons. In modern days, of course, there hardly is any
single field called military engineering, so now the term Civil Engineering
distinguishes the field from Mechanical, Electrical, and all other kinds of
engineering.
